CrossFit Games 2021 will be taking place in a few weeks and many CrossFit Games participants are very excited. Besides the usual competitions like the men's, women's events will also take place. The women's competition, Pegboard contests, Cutting system and Reebok equipment are all well-known. But, do you really know what to expect? Continue reading to learn more! Women's competition
The 2021 Crossfit Games' women's competition started this morning with the swim race. Jonne Koski was the winner in the first race. Tia Clair Toomey Orr was also victorious. After maintaining her lead throughout competition, Koski was declared the overall winner. Tall and Eramoo Connell were second and third, each. It was the first Games event by women. The women's side wanted to complete the podium.
The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Kara Saunders (Australian athlete) finished second in Australia. She was also eleventh worldwide for 2020. Another rising star is Andrea Nisler, who competed in the team division in 2018 and finished third in the United States and fifteenth overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).
Pegboard contest
The Pegboard contest at the Crossfit Games 2021 was a first. It was added to Crossfit Games' summer Olympic program alongside double-unders & dumbbell overhead Squats. Toomey-Orr set the record for most wins in a single Games event with 30. Sager won Event 11 for men and earned his third win of the Games. Although there were many ties, Toomey-Orr's dominance wasn't enough to prevent him from winning the contest.

CrossFit Games athletes train by focusing on ten core physical skills: strength, flexibility and speed. Pegboard is a contest that tests competitor's grip strength as well as coordination. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The competition was intense, and the athletes left feeling satisfied after completing their Pegboard.
Cutting system
The CrossFit Games will once again employ a cutting system for the individual competition. The cuts are not as severe as those used in past Games but they are still very different. There are 15 events in the competition, so it is possible that 30 athletes will be cut after the eighth or seventh event. One question that remains is how CrossFit will adjust the points distribution after cuts. The scoring table used to determine the winners in the 2019 games was very similar to the one used to determine the losers in 2021. This is why it's most likely that the current system will be used.
This year's CrossFit Games team includes 236 competitors, making it the largest ever. Major cuts are made at the six initial events. The field is reduced down to 75 athletes. To determine the top ten, the top 30 athletes compete in a sprint tandem. From there, the top twenty athletes compete in the six remaining events. Castro's system was criticized by veterans Games participants who felt the cuts were too large.
Equipment from Reebok
Reebok has released new CrossFit Games shoes, clothing and equipment. Nano X1 will be the new shoes. They are made to meet multiple fitness needs. Reebok calls the shoe "the shoe of health," but it is more like a traditional trainer shoe. DuPont's Kevlar, which promotes durability, breathability, and strength, is the shoe's upper. The shoe's responsiveness is enhanced by the RopePro tech and a firm midsole.

Reebok's contract with CrossFit will end at the end of 2020, and the Games will be without a title sponsor. Reebok has sponsored these Games for over a decade. However, it now appears that the company's involvement in the Games is decreasing. Reebok won’t pay for the Games’ prize, but they will continue to make all athletic apparel, equipment, and gear worn by athletes. However, the company will no longer refer to itself as the "Reebok CrossFit Games" as it does now.

What's the difference between Aerobic Fitness & Anaerobic Fitness, and how can you tell?
Anaerobic fitness is the ability to do intense physical work without oxygen. During periods of high-intensity exercise, we use anaerobic pathways to provide enough energy to complete the task. Anaerobic pathways are glycolysis, creatinephosphate and the phosphagen.
Contrary to that, aerobic fitness is the ability to sustain low-intensity exercises for a long time. When doing aerobic exercises, oxygen serves as the primary source for fuel for the cells. In other words, the aerobic pathway provides more energy than the anaerobic pathway.
You must build your aerobic capacity before you can run a marathon. If you are only focusing on increasing your anaerobic capabilities, you won't finish the race.
Aerobic fitness can also be called cardiovascular fitness. The two most commonly used methods of measuring cardiovascular fitness, are VO2 Max testing and step tests.
Tests for VO2 Max
VO2 max is the maximal amount of oxygen (O2) that the body uses during exercise. This test measures how much oxygen the body can use while exercising.
This is the best test to assess cardiovascular fitness. This test requires expensive equipment, and highly qualified professionals to administer.
Step Tests
Step tests can be used to assess cardiovascular fitness. They are easy and effective. Based on your age and weight, they involve running or walking on a track or treadmill for a specified time.
These tests cost little, are quick and simple to do, and can be carried out almost anywhere. For example, you could walk on a treadmill 20 minutes and then stop. You should maintain a constant heart rate throughout the session.
This protocol is called the "Bruce Protocol". Bruce, himself a runner developed this protocol when he realized his heart rate didn't rise when he ran long distances.
